What do flow and head mean?
The two key numbers of any pump, simply explained.
Flow
The amount of liquid a pump moves per unit of time. For example, 100 m³/h means one hundred cubic metres every hour.
Head
The pressure a pump produces, expressed in metres. It includes the actual lift and friction losses in pipes.
How they relate
As head rises, flow falls on the same pump. This is what the performance curve shows.
Operating point
The point where the pump works in your system. It should ideally be close to its best efficiency.
